SDA addresses GG appointment concerns
The leadership of the Seventh Day Adventist Church has sought to address concerns about likely conflicts of faith and duty following the selection of Dr. Patrick Allen as the country’s next Governor General.
Dr. Allen is the President of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists.
Since the prime minister confirmed Dr. Allen’s selection on Tuesday, concerns have surfaced about the ability of the Governor General designate to attend official functions on Friday nights and on Saturdays.
President of the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh Day Adventists, Pastor Glen Samuels, said the movement does not dictate the actions of its members.
Dr. Allen will succeed Professor Sir Kenneth Hall who is to retire on February 26 due to ill health.
Dr. Allen will be sworn in at Kings House that same day as the country’s sixth governor general.
