NWU concerned Air J divestment plans

The National Workers Union (NWU), which represents several categories of workers at Air Jamaica, is again expressing concerns over the status of the divestment of the airline and the effect it will have on employees.

Vice president at the NWU, Granville Valentine says the workers have been expressing concerns over their employment in light of rumours regarding wide scale job cuts.

Mr. Valentine says the union will be seeking full discussion regarding several issues during a meeting scheduled for next Monday with the president and chief executive officer of the airline, Bruce Nobles.

Mr. Valentine says the union will not support any decision taken by the government or the airline’s management, which is not properly thought out.

Mr. Valentine says that there needs to be better communication with unions representing workers regarding the status of the divestment.

The government has set March 31 as the deadline for the divestment of the airline.
