Gleaner Columnist Martin Henry said the government may have to consider putting measures in place to accommodate the new governor general Dr. Patrick Allen based on his religious affiliation.

Dr. Allen, who is to be sworn in on February 26, is a senior member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Since he was named as the person to replace Sir Kenneth Hall in the country’s highest position, concerns have been raised as to whether his religious beliefs would conflict with the duties he would be required to perform.

Mr. Henry said it would be difficult for Dr. Allen to separate his religious and moral beliefs from the duty before him.

He said changes might have to be made in an effort to prevent any conflicts.

The leadership of the Seventh Day Adventist Church has expressed its support for the Dr. Allen.
