Opposition’s health system concerns
The Opposition is raising concern that the government’s policy of abolishing user fees at hospitals is causing immense pressure on the health system.
The People\'s National Party (PNP) said the system may be pushed to the brink of collapse.
The Opposition’s concerns, follows yesterday’s protest by doctors and nurses at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
They were protesting against overcrowding at the facility.
The Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, said while the abolition of the user fee policy was well intentioned, it has created more problems on an already overburden health care system.
The Opposition is further concerned that the additional resources required to improve the health care system are unlikely to be available given the economic pressures facing the government.
He wants the Health Minister to conduct an urgent review of the no user fee policy and to determine an alternative plan.
