Golding/Simpson pay tribute to Peralto

Tributes continue to pour in this afternoon in memory of former Parliamentarian, Ryan Peralto.



Mr Peralto died in hospital this morning at the age of 75 after a brief period of illness.



The Prime Minister Bruce Golding has expressed regret at the sudden death of Mr Peralto.



Mr Golding said Mr Peralto has had a long record of service to Jamaica in many fields.



Mr Peralto was a leading figure in the Jaycees movement and spearheaded many major projects that assisted vulnerable groups and communities.



According to Mr Golding, Mr Peralto made a significant contribution to Jamaica’s industrial development as a manufacturer and as a member of the Jamaica Manufacturers Association.



Mr Peralto was also a Mayor of Kingston and the General Secretary and later Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party.



The Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Dorothy Lightbourne said Mr Peralto served the country very well.



He has served as a Member of Parliament, a senator and a state minister in administrations of the Jamaica Labour Party.



Senator Lightbourne said Mr Peralto’s contributions would be duly recognised.



While the Opposition People\'s National Party also expressed condolences to the wife and children of Mr Peralto.



Opposition Leader, Portia Simpson Miller said he was an outstanding JLP member who made a significant contribution to the advancement of good governance.



Mrs Simpson Miller said Mr Peralto would be particularly remembered for his pioneering work, as a member of the Electoral Advisory Committee, which improved Jamaica’s electoral system.
