The Portland police have charged 21 year old Odane Passley for the death of his common-law wife a week ago.

Kelly-Ann Smith was allegedly stabbed during a quarrel in the Mountain Pleasant community on the morning of January 20.

Passley is scheduled to appear in the Buff Bay Resident Magistrates court tomorrow to answer the murder charge.

The police report that Smith was on her way to a health clinic with her 2 month old baby, when she was approached by Passley.

A heated argument reportedly developed between the two, and Smith walked away.

Investigators said Passley pulled a knife from his waist and stabbed her twice in the neck.

The woman fell into nearby bushes, still clutching the baby, while her boyfriend fled the scene.

She was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital by passers-by, who saw her lying in the bushes, covered with blood.

She later died while being treated.

Passley, who reportedly fled the scene, was later picked up by the police in the Orange Bay community.

The baby was unharmed and is being cared for by relatives of the dead woman.
