Gov’t to present supplementary estimates
The government is expected today to table a supplementary estimate, which will see the country spending two to three percent, more than projected.
Finance Minister, Audley Shaw, is expected to table the estimates of expenditure today.
A source in the finance ministry has disclosed that the government will add at least two percent to the $489.5 billion it announced it would spend when it tabled the national budget last year.
The source said while the world economy has been turbulent, the government was able to keep expenditure down by making critical cuts in spending.
Last week, opposition spokesman on Finance Dr. Omar Davies, said it was important that the finance minister take the revised estimates to the House urgently.
Aside from revealing to what extent the Government is sticking to its budget, Dr. Davies said the private sector uses it as an instrument for business decisions.
Last year, Dr. Davies said that Mr. Shaw’s $489.5 billion budget was not credible.
