One man is dead while a woman and her niece have been hospitalized in serious condition in an alleged case of attempted murder/suicide in Breadnut Walk, St Elizabeth.

The police say 40 year old farmer, John Peart, otherwise called Gospel John, is believed to have killed himself after severely chopping the woman and her niece last night.

Delverene Raybee, 30 years old is unemployed while her niece 14 years old Shamerica Bicare is a student of the Hampton School in St. Elizabeth.

It’s reported that Mr Peart and members of the Breadnut Valley community had an argument.

It’s alleged that he threw a stone, which damaged a car in the community.

He was reprimanded by Miss Raybee about his behaviour and another argument reportedly developed.

Following that argument it’s alleged that Peart received a phone call from an overseas based relative of Miss Raybee who ordered him to leave the premises.

Residents report that just after midnight, Peart went to the house where he forced open a door and attacked the two females with a machette while they were in bed.

They received several chop wounds and were rushed to the Black River Hospital.

The body of Peart was found about 5:00 a.m. hanging by a length of electrical cord from a mango tree in the yard where he lived with Miss Raybee and her teenaged niece.
