Some public officials and agencies are to come under greater scrutiny as the government takes steps to address corruption at various entities.

The Prime Minister Bruce Golding said his administration is working on a security vetting policy designed initially for the security forces but which will be extended to other areas of the government service.

In addition he said a bill is currently before Parliament to establish a special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute acts of corruption.

Mr Golding said there are also plans to cut back on the concessions and waivers granted by the Finance Ministry.

According to him, the current system of granting waivers and concessions creates a potential problem for corruption and distorts business.

In this regard he said further measures are being considered to simplify the system of taxation.

Meanwhile the Commissioner of Customs Danville Walker said he has also taken steps to ensure a greater level of accountability among personnel at that department.
