Bishop Gibson High School’s Shari-Jo Miller is the new Gleaner Children’s Own Spelling Bee champion.
Miller who is coached by Primrose Swaby represented the parish of Manchester for the second straight year.
She out-spelled the Rev Glen Archer coached-contestants from the parishes of Kingston and St Andrew who rounded out the top three.
It was a very nervous Shari-Jo who closed her eyes and spelt her way to an emotional win.
The Italian word Appoggiatura is a musical term for a grace note.
Shari-Jo will now start to prepare to represent Jamaica at the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee competition in the United States in May.
The tearful champion said she was overjoyed by her performance.
