Northern Caribbean University students protest

Published:Thursday | February 5, 2009 | 6:30 PM

Several Northern Caribbean University (NCU) students in Manchester this afternoon walked out of their weekly chapel session to protest against the behaviour of a vice principal.

The students were reportedly discussing matters relating to a new electronic logging system to attend the weekly prayers when things went awry.

It’s alleged that a female student rose to complain about a matter unrelated to the subject of discussion when she was offended by a comment made by the vice principal.

Her peers reportedly took issue with the vice principal’s comment and walked out of the chapel.

A group of students then marched to the gates of the Mandeville-based University to register their disgust about the incident.

At news time, we were unable to get a comment from the University, as a promised call to our news centre was not returned.
