United States Senators are to vote today on President Barack Obama’s 800 billion dollars economic stimulus plan.

The House passed its version of the stimulus bill nearly two weeks ago, without a vote from the Republican.

If the measure passes the Senate, the two chambers will have to reconcile the differences between the two bills.

Last night, Mr. Obama appeared before a national audience to make the case for his stimulus plan.

The president stressed the urgency of passing the plan, which his administration say will help to pull the US economy out of its current skid.

Mr. Obama said his objective was to make sure that 4 million jobs are created or saved as well as to bring relief to home owners.

He has urged Congress to act without delay saying that only the federal government can break the vicious cycle gripping the US economy.
