Prime Minister Bruce Golding has instructed two cabinet ministers to present him with recommendations aimed at cleaning up the music industry.

Education Minister Andrew Holness and Information Minister Olivia Grange have been mandated to have the recommendations ready for cabinet review on Monday.

The prime minister gave the instruction during a meeting held with members of the music industry at Jamaica House this morning.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Golding said there was no shortage of laws governing the broadcast and publication regulations for the industry.

He said although some of the laws may need updating, he’s prepared to go all the way to have them enforced.

Mr Golding had instructed the Information Minister to meet with the industry players to discuss the concerns about the portrayal of negative lyrics and images through Jamaica’s music.

It also followed raging debate on the issue and the subsequent ban by the Broadcasting Commission of all songs containing explicit violent sexual lyrics.
