Parliament approved Jamaican embassy in Spain

The Cabinet has given approval for the establishment of a Jamaican Embassy in Spain.



Prime Minister Bruce Golding made the announcement during a special joint sitting of the House of Representative and the Senate this afternoon.



The Special Sitting was organised as part of activities to welcome the Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia who arrived today for a two-day official visit.



According to Prime Minister Golding, Jamaica is grateful to Spain for the support it has been providing especially in the area of investment.



He said over the past few years, 10 new Spanish hotels have been constructed in Jamaica representing an investment of more than one billion US dollars



Mr Golding said over the next five years, another four thousand 300 rooms will be built at a capital investment cost of one point five billion US dollars.



This afternoon the Prime Minister and the Spanish King will sign a new air service agreement for travel between both countries.



The will also sign a double taxation and tax evasion agreement to encourage business relationships.
