England scent victory as Sarwan, Chanderpaul fall on the 5th day, 3rd Test
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – West Indies hopes of saving the third Test against England on Thursday suffered two big dents when Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul were dismissed before tea.
Sarwan fell for 106 – his 13th Test hundred – and Chanderpaul made 55, as West Indies, chasing a highly improbable, if not impossible 503 for victory, reached 279 for five in their second innings at the break on the last day of the Test at the Antigua Recreation Ground.
At tea, Brendan Nash was not out on 22 and Denesh Ramdin was not out on eight, after Sarwan and Chanderpaul both fell to Stuart Broad – armed with second new ball – within 38 balls of each other.
This followed a 148-run stand between Sarwan and Chanderpaul for the fourth wicket, after they batted defiantly, when West Indies resumed from their overnight total of 143 for three and reached 196 for three at lunch.
