JCF to introduce plea bargaining policy
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is looking to introducing a plea bargaining policy to encourage police personnel to reveal wrongdoing within the force.
This follows last week’s confession by Constable Carey Lyn Shue that he made up a statement from a non-existent witness in a murder trial.
As a result of the revelation, a no-case order was made against the accused man.
Head of the Anti-Corruption Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice said the branch is now trying to get other cops to follow Constable Lyn Shue’s example.
He has not given a timeline for implementation, but indicated that work within the unit is still in the early stages.
ACP Felice said the branch is duty bound to report criminal matters to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who would make decisions on any subsequent prosecutions.
