The National Works Agency (NWA) has started temporary repairs on a section of the Kendal to Richmond main road in St Mary.

The works agency said a retaining wall along a section of the road collapsed and has reduced traffic to single lane access.

According to the NWA, the wall is located at an undermined section of the roadway in the vicinity of the Richmond Farm prison.

The NWA said work is expected to be completed within 48 hours.

Its advising motorists to proceed with caution.

In the meantime, the NWA said the roadway from Richmond to Rose Hill also in St Mary is now impassable.

The road broke away during last week’s heavy rains and there is no alternative route.
