The number of inmates with Chicken Pox at the South Camp Adult Correctional Centre in St Andrew has risen to 10.

Acting Commissioner of Corrections, June Jarrett says the administration is continuing its isolation and treatment measures to prevent a spread to other inmates:

At least one correctional officer had been infected with the virus, but he has since returned to work.

Mrs. Jarrett said there have been no reports of inmates with the illness at other correctional facilities.

Chicken pox is a highly contagious illness caused by infection with the varicella zoster virus.

Its characterised by red, itchy rashes on the skin that usually appear first on the abdomen or back and face, and then spread to the scalp, mouth, nose, ears, and genitals.
