PATH payment delay cause drop in attendance
The Opposition Peoples National Party said it has received reports of a delay in subventions to some schools under the School Feeding Programme.
Opposition Spokesman on Education Basil Waite said as a result there has been a drop in the attendance of some students registered under the Programme For Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).
He said some schools are contemplating closure of their canteens because of the delay in receiving subventions.
Senator Waite said the Education Ministry has advised him that the outstanding amounts under the programme will be disbursed this week.
He’s calling for the ministry to ensure that the allocations are made available in a timely manner.
Senator Waite also wants urgent bipartisan talks to be held on the composition of the Education budget for Financial Year 2009-2010.
