Court Denies Stern’s Privy Council Application
The Court of Appeal has thrown out an application for a dual citizenship matter involving the JLP’s Michael Stern to go to the Privy Council.
The North West Clarendon MP was seeking to strike out a claim by the PNP’s Richard Azan in relation to an election petition alleging that he has dual citizenship.
Mr Stern wanted to go to the Privy Council for a determination as to when an election petition is deemed served.
In his appeal Mr Stern contended that he was not served with additional information on the petition, within the specified time in law.
The Court had earlier rejected Mr. Stern’s claim, prompting him to seek leave to go to the Privy Council.
But under the law the Court of Appeal is the final court for election petitions.
