Business leaders ask for budget input
A group of 21 private sector business association presidents are urging the Bruce Golding administration to have discussions with sector leaders ahead of the tabling of the budget.
The Council of Presidents is asking the Government to avoid the usual approach of making surprise announcements regarding its planned expenditure and the much anticipated tax reform programme.
The group’s position follows wide ranging discussions among members about the current monetary policies being implemented by the Bank of Jamaica, and the Government’s fiscal programme.
It said it strongly supports the Partnership for Transformation dialogue involving the Government, Opposition, private sector and unions.
Discussion is critical as businesses struggle to cope with the current economic crisis.
The council said it is committed to working in partnership with the Government and other stakeholders to strengthen the Jamaican economy.
