Walker lashes out against non-performers
Commissioner of Customs Danville Walker said persons in the public sector who are not performing satisfactorily must be removed.
According to Mr Walker, Jamaica’s survival depends on the performance of the civil service.
He said many managers in the public sector for example are profilers merely collecting more pay than their workers.
The Customs commissioner is threatening to expose importers who are under invoicing their supplies at the ports.
He has also announced that the Customs Department will be making changes at the airports to cut the time it takes to process passengers.
Mr Walker said scanners will be installed at the airports and the use of trained dogs would be reintroduced.
At the same time he said the Customs Department is trying to reduce the time it takes to clear goods coming into the country.
Mr Walker is reporting that the Government is now considering allowing private planes to land at the Boscobel aerodrome in St Mary.
