Narcotics police brace for ganja increase
The Narcotics Police are bracing for an increase in ganja farming and trading as the economic condition worsens.
The head of the Narcotics Police, Senior Superintendent Carlton Wilson, said many people are now using lucrative means like drugs to earn money.
His comments come as the narcotics police and Jamaica Defence Force soldiers continue to destroy a multimillion-dollar ganja farm in St Elizabeth.
The farm was discovered on a swampland near Slipe on Monday.
SSP Wilson said it’s going to take the team at least a week to eradicate the farm.
According to the police up to late yesterday afternoon, they had destroyed 14 acres of ready-to-reap ganja.
On Monday, the police reportedly disposed of 600 pounds of the weed.
It’s reported that four buckets of ganja seeds were also found.
