The Police Commissioner is to abandon the post of Deputy Commissioner in charge of Crime, which is now held by British cop, Mark Shields.

Mr. Shields is due to demit office at the end of May.

His last contract expired on February 28.

The Police Service Commission extended it by three months to the end of May after a request from the High Command.

This afternoon, Commissioner Lewin said there are no plans to replace Mr. Shields.

He declined to offer further comment on the matter saying he needed more time to finalise certain undertakings.

Commissioner Lewin said it is safe to report that the post will no longer exist.
