The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has won the Edison Electric Institute award for emergency recovery.
The JPS copped the award for its power restoration effort after Tropical Storm Gustav battered Jamaica last year.
Approximately 70 percent of JPS customers had lost electrical power.
However, after two days, the light and power company restored service to 90 percent of its customers.
The Edison Electric Institute award for emergency recovery is presented annually.
It recognizes exceptional efforts in restoring electricity that has been disrupted by severe weather or other natural events.
A panel of judges chose the winner following an international nomination process.
