The mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie is accusing a cellular phone company of engaging a don to circumvent the law in erecting cell towers.

According to Mr McKenzie, the company has paid US$250,000 to a don in the corporate area to facilitate the erection of a tower.

Mr McKenzie said the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation will not tolerate the illegal erection of cell towers in the municipality.

Mayor McKenzie was speaking last night at a community meeting in Gordon Town, St Andrew.

Earlier he told a Rotary Club meeting in New Kingston that one company has illegally erected 16 cell towers in the corporate area.

He is also serving notice that he will be tabling a motion in the Senate this month for the Government to clampdown down on illegal funeral homes.
