Security ministry gets new communication equipment
n a release from the Security Ministry, it said, under the contract funded by the Jamaican government, Motorola will supply radios (mobiles, portables and control base stations) and accessories for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS). The signing took place at the Ministry’s Oxford Road Office in Kingston. The contract is valued at US$1,465,782.42.
Minister Macmillan said that the new radios will among other things, help with connecting JDF helicopters and police personnel on the ground during joint operations. The Ministry also said the correctional department will now be accommodated on the new radio network, thereby allowing for operational links with the JCF and the JDF.
The new radio network will also be available for access by public sector agencies involved in emergency and disaster management. These include the Office of Disaster preparedness and Emergency Management(ODPEM) and the Fire and Health Services.
