The two oldest operating theatres at the Bustamante Hospital for Children have been closed for three weeks to facilitate rehabilitation work.

The South East Regional Health Authority says the theatres were built before the 1920\'s.

As a result, the authority says work must be undertaken to modernize the operating theatres in keeping with new trends and technology.

The scope of work includes general refurbishment, upgrading of the electrical circuit and installing additional outlets for equipment and medical gases.

The rehabilitation work is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
