North Coast Highway breakaway

The Ministry of Transport and Works is trying to determine what caused a section of the North Coast Highway to collapse.

Works Minister Mike Henry said within the next two to three weeks, officers will be conducting an assessment following which he’s expected to receive a report.

The report will focus on the design that was done and determine whether there was negligence.

Mr. Henry said after a determination is made, an estimate will be developed for the rehabilitation of the road.

Transport minister said the proposed June start up date for the Williamsfield segment of Highway 2000 is on schedule.

He says the government is now in the process of procuring the necessary land for the alignment of the road to take place.
