Income Tax Deadline
Today is the final day for companies, self-employed persons and organisations to file their annual income tax returns.
In addition, the Tax Administration Services Department said persons with other sources of income should also file tax from income earned last year, as well as make a declaration of estimated income and tax payable for 2009.
Director of Public Relations at the Tax Department, Meris Haughton, said the necessary provisions have been made in anticipation of the long lines of persons seeking to file their annual returns.
She said tax collections grew by 5 percent over the last three to five years.
However, Ms. Haughton said less than half of taxpayers pay their income tax.
Persons who fail to meet today’s deadline will face an adjustment in their estimated assessment or brought before the courts.
The government is projecting an overall tax collection of $210 billion this year.
