Clarendon roadwork squabble settled
Roadwork men in North West Clarendon will have to wait longer before they receive the balance of their pay.
Several of them took to the streets earlier this week demanding that they be paid for the bushing and drain-cleaning activities they undertook.
The workmen say they have been waiting for more than a month to be paid for phase two of the project.
Last night the Transport and Works Ministry said it must first do an audit of the work before the balance is paid.
The Works Minister Mike Henry said it would be irresponsible to complete the payments before his technical team assesses the project.
The project was done in two phases under the Road Maintenance Fund.
Mr Henry said the cheques for phase two have been prepared, and will be disbursed subject to the presentation of a satisfactory audit report.
He said the payments are not overdue because today is the promised payment day for the second phase of the work.
