50 percent voter turn out so far in West Portland
After nearly seven hours of voting in West Portland there is still no clear signs as to who is in the ascendancy to represent the constituency in Gordon House.
Electoral Office of Jamaica officials have so far reported an average of 50 percent voter turn out.
The PNP Kenneth Rowe is contesting Daryl Vaz of the JLP for the seat.
Both parties report.
Almost the entire top brass of both parties are in West Portland. PNP president Portia SImpson Miller has been in the constituency since this morning. “We are on track. Things are going according to plan. We are getting out our people and we are encouraged by that” said Peter Bunting, PNP General Secretary.
A short while ago Vaz along with JLP leader Bruce Golding drove through a section of the constituency leaving bell-ringing Labourites in a frenzy.
PNP insiders have said that the party is getting ready to celebrate.
One prominent member said that the party is currently on target to winning by the its projected 275 votes. The member said that the only draw back thus far is a lower than protected PNP vote turn out in St. Margarette\'s Bay.
The JLP meanwhile has reported that Vaz is right on target for a big win. \"Close to 90 per cent of the person\'s targeted have turned out thus far,\" Delano Seivwright, JLP communication officer said.
The polls close at 5 p.m. today after which the winner will be announced.
