The polls have now closed in the keenly contested West Portland by-election.
Thousands of voters turned out to cast their ballots in polls under overcast skies for the major part.
The JLP’s Daryl Vaz is running against the PNP’s Kenneth Rowe and Ras Astor Black of the Jamaica Alliance Movement.
The by-election follows a ruling by the Court that Vaz was not eligible to remain in Parliament because he was an American at the time of his nomination in 2007.
Since the last election Mr Vaz has given up his US citizenship.
The director of elections, Orrette Fisher said preliminary reports indicate that about 60 percent of voters turned out at some polling stations.
