Golding blasts Opposition
A day after the Jamaica Labour Party’s balance in the Lower House was restored to 32-28 over the Opposition People\'s National Party, the Prime Minister has accused the Opposition of using election petition as a tool to topple his government.
Speaking in Parliament this afternoon, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said steps must now be taken to review the constitutional provision regarding qualification to sit in either of Parliament\'s chambers.
Under the constitution persons who have sworn allegiance/obedience to a foreign power are not entitled to sit in the House.
Daryl Vaz was disqualified under this provision in the constitution but was re-elected yesterday after a by-election in West Portland.
Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller took offence at Golding\'s comment.
She said that the PNP would never take power in this country unless it is by the ballots.
The Governing JLP has three of its MPs facing challenges to their qualification to sit in the House.
