By-election recount continues

The official recount to confirm the winner of Monday’s by-election in West Portland is continuing at the Buff Bay Community Health Clinic.



Returning Officer for the parish, Carlton Harris, said the manual recount, which started yesterday, could continue into tomorrow.



On Monday Daryl Vaz of the Jamaica Labour Party was declared the winner of the by-election after polling 7, 915 votes.



Kenneth Rowe of the People’s National Party received 5,626 votes and Astor Black who represented the Jamaica Alliance Movement, 27.



Vaz earlier predicted a 2,000 margin of victory, and after a preliminary count on Monday, he was ahead by 2,289 votes.
