Policemen suspended for conspiring with inmates
Four policemen from the St. James Police Division have been suspended for conspiring with inmates to sell contraband.
They are a constable and three district constables attached to the Montego Freeport Police Station. The actions follow the discovery of $100,000 inside a cell.
It is understood that inmates had access to contraband such as ganja, cigarettes, lighters and money.
The Assistant Commissioner for the Area One Police, Clifford Blake said a major investigation is now underway.
There have been numerous allegations of corruption against police personnel in St. James in recent times.
Several officers from the division are before the court and disciplinary actions, have been imposed against many others.
These include Corporal Carey Lyn-Shue, who was suspended after he confessed that he made up a witness and a statement against a murder suspect.
On January 9, approximately 40 rank-and-file members were transferred from the St. James police division.
