The Harrison Preparatory school in Spanish Town, St Catherine took some time last week to reflect on Jamaica's rich heritage. The school's Jamaica Day celebrations transformed the grounds into a bright display of patriotic colours.
On display were a number of local fruits and produce, and the many by-products they can make. There were displays of banana bread, plantain porridge, ripe and green bananas and plantains.
The Jamaica Day celebration is put on annually to showcase the nation's achievements. The theme of the occasion was heritage, with children (girls) wearing their bandanas. It was the consensus that the spirit of heritage was alive and well.
