MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

THE SERVICE provided to the residents of the parish by the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) was the main topic of discussion during the monthly meeting of the Manchester Parish Council last Thursday.

Councillor Donovon Mitchell of the Royal Flat division was incensed that the JPS was still billing, and was being paid by the parish council for a significant number of street lights that have been in a state of disrepair for months, or have been stolen.

Iceval Brown of the Grove Town division, echoed similar sentiments, pointing out that in the Johns Hall division alone, there were 29 street lights that were not working.

In a passionate presentation, councillor Leroy Mitchell of the Walderston division, said he expects the company to provide efficient and reliable service.

In the meantime, the councillors have asked that further payments, which amount to nearly $3 million per month, be withheld from the JPS until it rectifies the missing or non-functional street lights in the parish.
