We will always be a voice for you

Dear readers,

Press freedom remains a treasured privilege for this newspaper. We do not take the public trust that we are afforded for granted and commit ourselves to responsible journalism in every facet of our operations. We made this commitment to you in our code of ethics and professionalism. We will work hard to ensure we do not fail you.

We will strive for accuracy and objectivity as we ensure that our people have access to information about issues that touch their lives. We will explore solutions, provide a forum for diverse views and lay the foundation for dialogue between people and their government. Today, after 10 years, we relaunch our Editors' Forum series as part of the initiative to accommodate diverse views as we seek to build a better Jamaica.

With the public interest foremost in our mind, we will endeavour to include all sides relevant to each story and we will treat people with dignity, respect and compassion. Where material is found to encourage discrimination, ridicule, prejudice or hatred, we will not publish, nor will we accept bribes.

We are determined to be honest, as we scrutinise and demand accountability from public officials. Whenever and wherever we falter, we will quickly and boldly step forward and admit and correct our errors and apologise as is required.

We invite you, our readers, to revisit our code of ethics and professionalism and we urge you to hold us to our various commitments.
