Police under attack in Tivoli
POLICE PERSONNEL patrolling Tivoli Gardens are reportedly coming under attack from persons who hurl stones at them from high-rise buildings.
The Police High Command said yesterday that elements in Tivoli Gardens were repeatedly attacking police personnel and vehicles by throwing missiles at them.
"Only last night, a police officer from the Mobile Reserve was injured while on duty in Tivoli Gardens. The policeman was hit several times in his chest with stones," said a release from Karl Angell, director of communications at the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The Police High Command has urged its members who live or work in Tivoli Gardens to be alert. "At all times, members are asked to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety."
The police are also warning residents of Tivoli Gardens who participate in "unprovoked and calculated attacks" on members of the force and its assets to immediately desist.
"Thus far, the police have not responded to these unprovoked attacks with force. However, we will not shirk our responsibilities to our members and the law-abiding citizens of Tivoli Gardens."
The High Command is warning that if these attacks continue, the police will have no alternative but to respond appropriately.
