Spanish Town cops face 'vicious' attacks
The following is a statement by the Police High Command following a gun attack on personnel in Spanish Town
The vicious and unprovoked attacks (yesterday) evening on police personnel on duty at the Spanish Town Police Station and those on mobile patrols in the vicinity are clear indications of the viciousness and the extraordinary lengths to which criminals from the Clansman gang will go, in order to perpetuate their criminal way of life.
The assault (yesterday) evening on our personnel clearly indicates the weapons that these criminals have at their disposal and their willingness to use these weapons against the security forces.
Despite these unwarranted attacks, the resolve of the police remains strong.
The police will not cower in the face of these attacks and will respond appropriately and professionally. The Police High Command praises the bravery and the commitment of members who came under sustained gunfire (yesterday) evening and who were able to repel the criminals.
The Police High Command reminds all police personnel, especially those living and working in the St Catherine North, St Catherine South and the Clarendon Divisions, that the threat level remains at extreme. This means attacks are imminent and extra precaution should be taken to protect themselves, their colleagues and assets.
