Children's club members lend helping hand to SDC
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine:
MEMBERS OF Dela Vega City Children's Club were among scores of volunteers who turned up at the Social Development Commission's (SDC) Greater St Catherine complex in Spanish Town last week Friday, to give support to the agency's pre-Labour Day project.
Baldvin McKenzie, acting parish manager, told The Gleaner that the complex was selected for extensive refurbishing, primarily because of its significance to the parish.
"We are centrally located and we host several events, as it relates to the SDC, the parish, community organisations and so on, so the SDC saw it fit to give support to this facility so that at the end of the day we would have a good environment to carry out workshops, meetings etc," said McKenzie.
In addition to general beautification, a section of the ground was also paved. The $400,000 project was supported mainly by Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange who contributed $40,000, South Central St Catherine member of parliament, Sharon Hay-Webster, donated $20,000 while Fitz Jackson, member of parliament, St Catherine South, contributed $20,000.
