AFTER A week of dining at a bargain at some of Jamaica's top restaurants during Restaurant Week, shoppers got the opportunity to fill their grocery baskets for less on 'Super Sunday' at the island's largest supermarket chain and purveyor of low prices, Hi-Lo Food Stores.

This year, Hi-Lo Food Stores partnered with the promoters of Restaurant Week to make the culmination of Jamaica's most-anticipated time to dine out even better with displays, sampling and tasting of various food products and beverages, celebrity chefs, music, entertainment and lots of giveaways. More significantly, customers got a 10 per cent discount on grocery purchases valued at $2,500 and more before GCT.

Suppliers of popular consumables were brought in to make the offering even more attractive, as high-value commodity distributors such as Digicel, GraceKennedy, Wisynco Distributors, Kirk Distributors, Lascelles, Caribbean Producers Jamaica Ltd, and Red Stripe were on location to provide further discounts and giveaways on mobile phones and devices, samplings of food products and beverages at various Hi-Lo Food Stores locations.

For those who shopped with RBC Royal Bank credit cards, the deal was even bigger as one lucky customer got the chance to win $25,000 worth of groceries. Adam and Eve Spa was on hand to relieve the stress with shoulder massages to those shoppers who got weary from all the excitement.

Highly successful

Scores of shoppers streamed in to take advantage of the deal on groceries, as well as sample and taste the wide assortment of food products on offer and those products that were available at a discount. Manager of Hi-Lo Barbican, Opal Mars, said the promotion was highly successful given the large turnout of shoppers who flocked the store.

"Hi-Lo is the first supermarket ever to sponsor the celebration of Restaurant Week, which is a good thing for us. We looked at it as a medium to expose our brand because a lot of people are interested in Restaurant Week, so that would give us a premium opportunity to widen our customer base and ultimately sale potential," she explained.

Longtime customer, Maxine, was pleasantly surprised when she was presented with a gift basket of Hi-Lo products after correctly answering one of the many questions thrown to shoppers. "It has been a total surprise. I just came to pick up a few items and to compliment the entertainers here, and this is what I got!"
