The artistic talent of the children of Sunbeam Children's Home in St Catherine was put on display at the recently held Old Harbour Expo.

Arts & Education visited the Portmore Community College (Old Harbour campus) for the event and came across a magnificent display of hand-made toys made by wards of the home.

There were airplanes, flowers, mats, frogs, spiders, racing cars, doll houses and awnings all made from match and fudge sticks.

"The boys are taught coping skills and these items will tell they've learned well. The thing is, it shows that talent has no boundaries," said chairman of the home, Randy Finikin.

Finikin said the home always aims to achieve self-sufficiency. This, he said, would be achieved through raising poultry and livestock.

"I am really impressed with how these children showcase the talent that can help to drive the country forward, " said Cherton Melville, while looking at the items.

The home, which is located in Gutters, St Catherine houses 38 boys, age eight to 18. It was founded by Reverend Cedric Lue. The administrator is Brenda Williams.
