As part of our coverage of Jamaica's 50 years of Independence, we delved into our archives to give those who never knew these women a clue and those who did, the opportunity to reminisce on what fashion trends were like back then.

The fashion wheel is ever revolving and, at some point, everything comes back in style. And what better barometer to use to see what was in style than to take a look at the styles of the wives of past prime ministers of Jamaica?

These women are known for highlighting the current fashion trends, while others had their own unique sense of style. But whatever the case, these women are an encyclopaedia of Jamaican fashion and can certainly teach us a thing or two.

The prime ministers' wives and wife of one premier are reviewed in the order that their husbands held office:

1. Edna Manley was married to Norman Manley, Jamaica's first and only premier (not prime minister).

2. Gladys Bustamante was married to The Right Excellent Sir William Alexander Bustamante.

3. Beverley Anderson Manley was married to the Most Honourable Michael Manley.

4. Marie Elizabeth 'Mitsy' Seaga was married to The Most Honourable Edward Seaga.

5. Lorna Golding is married to The Honourable Orette Bruce Golding.

6. Juliet Holness is married to The Honourable Andrew Holness.
