Caribbean Weekly Stock Report

February 27 - March 2, 2012

The weakness in Caribbean stocks continued for another week as 27,616,978 shares valued at US$6,165,778 crossed the floors of the six stock exchanges across Caricom.

For the week, 31 stocks advanced, 42 declined and 51 remained unchanged. First Caribbean posted the largest gain for the week of 18.11%, while on the losing end, Barbados Farms fell 20%.

Table 1 provides a summary of the broad market indices for the week as well as some international reference points.

For the week, ten of the CSX 30 stocks advanced, twelve declined and eight were unchanged. The CSX 30 gained 1.48 points to close the week at 1,283.48, down 2.40% year to date. There were gains for Lascelles (11.71%), C&W Jamaica (5.28%), Banks DIH (2.09%), NCB Jamaica (1.74%), and Neal & Massy (1.31%).

However, there were losses for Caribbean Cement (10.87%), Desnoes & Geddes (6.02%), Mayberry (1.86%), Scotia Group Jamaica (1.62%) and Ansa McAl (1.30%).

On the Junior Market, three stocks advanced, seven declined and two were unchanged as the CJSX lost 56.42 points points to close the week at 1,586.41, down 12.69% year to date. There were gains for Access Financial (10.55%) and HoneyBun (2.32%).

However, the group was dragged down by losses for Caribbean Producers (7.59%), Lasco Manufacturing (5.69%), Lasco Distributors (5.51%), AMG Packaging (3.87%), Lasco Financial (3.53%) and General Accident (1.18%).
