WESTERN BUREAU:

If Eleanor Miller, Mark Hart, Brian Jardim, Adam Stewart and the 'We Care for Cornwall Regional' team have their way, Montego Bay's landmark medical facility will be the best this side of the hemisphere.

And, if they continue to fund the western Jamaica facility with the current zest, acting Chief Executive Officer Anthony Smikle will be the envy of all hospital administrators in this country.

Last Friday, We Care received a cheque of $1 million from Summerfest Productions and Red Stripe, towards renovating the steriliser unit in the paediatric ward. The very next day, the We Care team was boating on the Caribbean sea hauling in donations from corporate Jamaica and well-wishers.

Their latest fundraiser, 'Good Food, Good Wine, Good Friends ... and Good Times, all for a Good Cause' Catamaran Cruise, had persons digging deep into their pockets for US$250 per person.

We Care wants to raise US$1.8 million to improve services at the public facility and, as Mark Hart would tell you, "this is to ensure that the hospital is a very high-standard, first-response facility".

Preaching almost daily to many who have been converted, Hart's passion is evidenced in every word that comes out of his mouth.

The paediatric ward at the Cornwall Regional Hospital is the only facility in western Jamaica providing specialised care such as blood transfusions and ultrasound, and the We Care team is cognisant of this fact.

Last weekend, Nicky and Sharon Feanny opened up their Wharf House home for the dinner on land, after the party cruise docked at their pier.

New York celebrity DJ Kamau Preston, who spins for the likes of Howard Stern and the New York Giants, gave his services free.
