Ambassadors called to the bar!
Garfene Grandison, Assistant Lifestyle Coordinator
For its ninth staging, Restaurant Week gives a fresh, fabulous take on dining out. Under this year's theme 'Raise a fork & lift the city', the Gleaner-sponsored SSCO food event has re-introduced the concept of food ambassadors to document their dining experiences in the pages of The Gleaner preceding and during Restaurant Week.
This year, 10 ambassadors have been selected, and they have been dining at restaurants in the Epicurean and Delectable categories.
They are Dr Parris Lyew Ayee, Dr Sara Lawrence, Professor Verene Shepherd, Kelly Tomblin, Ian Forbes, Jennifer 'Jenny Jenny' Small, Juliet Cuthbert, Dr Serrano Kitson, and from the west, Yoni Epstein and Peter Lloyd.
Many of the ambassadors have been making the rounds at some of the restaurants and their experiences will be published in the Food pages of The Gleaner next week Thursday.
Our ambassadors were officially welcomed to The Gleaner Restaurant Week family on Tuesday night at a cocktail reception held at 689 by Brian Lumley. The specially selected guests were given the opportunity to meet a few of last year's ambassadors who were able to share their experiences. Then it was time for the ambassadors to be officially inducted into the 'Hall of Fame' via a special passing of the fork ceremony.
After the brief-but-entertaining mock ceremony, all in attendance were treated to hand-passed finger foods and cocktails, courtesy of chef de cuisine, Brian Lumley.
Come November 8-16, the ambassadors will be out in full force and may turn up at the table next to you! But before, here are some highlights to show how they were fêted when they were called to the bar.
