Math specialists for primary schools
The ministry of education said arrangements are being put in place to have 63 math specialists placed in more than 400 primary schools by October.
The education ministry said the 63 math specialists are among 119, who are to be placed in primary schools.
The move is part of plans by the ministry to improve student’s performance in the subject.
National Mathematics Coordinator, Tamika Benjamin, said the specialists will operate on a school or cluster based structure and will target schools with low Mathematics grades.
Mr. Benjamin said they will be assigned to groups of three to five schools and will be responsible for visiting schools, running demonstration lessons and providing technical support to teachers.
She adds that 36 of the 63 specialists would be placed in schools that have a math average below 30 percent.
