JPS bill reduction coming
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says customers could see a significant reduction in their electricity bills within the next three years.
Corporate Communications Manager, Winsome Callum says the JPS will be expanding its electricity generation capacity, which will result in major savings for the company.
She says the programme will involve the modification of the company’s power plant in Bogue, Monteo Bay to use compressed natural gas instead of liquefied gas.
She says these savings will eventually be passed on to customers:
Ms. Callum says the company will be reinvesting a portion of its profits into creating more renewable sources of energy.
The company, which has experienced significant losses since January, reportedly made more than half a billion dollars in profit in the third quarter of the year.
Ms. Callum says some of that money will be used to construct a wind farm in Manchester.
